      Wild Edibles Walk at Old Town Hill

      Essex County is home to over 100 species of edible wild plants. Many of these species are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts. These include native species like Black Raspberry and Shagbark Hickory, non-native weeds like Burdock and Chicory, and exotic invasive species like Japanese Knotweed and Dame's Rocket.

      Join Russ Cohen, expert forager, author of "Wild Plants I Have Known...and Eaten," and self-professed "Johnny Applesed of Native Edibles" for a 2.5-hour ramble through Old Town Hill in Newbury to discover and taste some of his favorite wild edibles.

      Keys to identification will be provided along with info on edible portions, seasons of availability, and preparation methods, as well as guidelines for safe and environmentally-responsible foraging.

      Cost: Member: $24; Nonmember: $30;
